Stanley Len
août 19, 1946 — décembre 9, 2024
With sadness, our family announces the passing of Stanley Louis Len on December 9, 2024, with his family by his side.
Stan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanna; children Megan (Shawn) Bennett, Kelley (Jeff) Henkelman, Cleve (Jana) Len; grandchildren Matthew, Mason, Avery, Claire and Sullivan; sister-in-law Inge Len; as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Louise Len; siblings Eddie Len, Eileen Maccan, Walter Len, Anne McMillan, Stena Jaworski, John Len, Jennie Lang and Karoline Nault.
Stan, known as Butch to many, was born in Yorkton, SK on August 19, 1946. He was the youngest of nine siblings, and grew up on the family homestead near Fonehill, SK. During Stan’s work as an industrial electrician and instrument mechanic the family lived in Lynn Lake, MB, Kitimat, BC and settled in Saskatoon, SK. He made many lifelong friends everywhere they went.
Stan loved going back ‘home’ to the Yorkton area and always looked forward to spending time at Burgis Beach with family and old friends and participating in their annual golf weekend – the Noodleman. As the life of the party, Stan always told amazing stories and tales, recited Shakespeare better than Shakespeare himself, and was a loyal husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend.
He was a skilled handyman and was always starting a new project or stopping by to help fix something (or to find something that needed fixing). Whenever a winter storm hit, he would be the first one out with his snowblower, clearing the entire street.
A true passion of Stan’s was sports – hockey, baseball, golf and football. He loved cheering on his favorite teams, the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. Stan coached his kids’ sports teams and had an incredible impact on the development of many players. A sporting highlight was his time on his high school football team, the Yorkton Gridders. In the fall of 2022, the 1964 Yorkton Collegiate Institute Gridder Football team were inducted into the Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame. This was a very special moment for the team to reunite. Over the years sports gave him many incredible memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Once his grandchildren started playing sports, he was always cheering them on and providing tips and guidance.
Stan truly was one of a kind. He was a family man and the true definition of a friend. There will never be another Uncle Butch like him. He will be missed by those that knew him, but the memories of his stories and charismatic personality will continue to bring smiles as we learn to navigate life without him.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Home Care team and the St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit for their guidance and support.
At Stan’s request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Details will be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to a charity or organization of your choice.
