Sidney «Sid» Allen Lipkus
It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Sidney Allan Lipkus on Saturday October 12, 2024, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay on July 13, 1952, he was the son of the late Bennie and Rachel (Cohen) Lipkus.
Sidney was a well-known entrepreneur, bus driver and friend to all. He gave his heart and soul to his business, Roger’s Washer & Appliance. Located in Whitney Pier, he ran the business with his parents until 1996. After Roger’s, he worked for the Cape Breton Regional School Board and Transit Cape Breton, until his retirement 7 years ago. He loved his cell phone, his truck and McDonalds tea. He was a true gentleman, rich in laughter, wisdom and advice, to name a few of his special attributes.
Sid is survived by his wife Valerie (Edmond), daughter Ashley McCormick, Halifax, sons Bradley (Starr) MacIntyre, St. John, Mark (Allison) MacIntyre, Victoria, B.C., brothers Barry (Davida), Richmond Hill, Ontario, niece Michelle and nephew Andrew, both of Ontario. Sid was predeceased by his daughter Carol-Ann MacNeil.
Sidney had a strong devotion to his family, especially Valerie, the love of his life. You would hear him talk fondly about her on many occasions. He was so proud of his daughters, Ashley and Carol-Ann. He guided them both with encouragement and respect, which was proven in their later years. He was devoted to his Jewish faith and in earlier years you would always be able to see him around the Jewish synagogue not only attending shul but taking care of the property, managing the graveyard and telling people, in his comical but serious voice, how things were going to be done.
Sid had so many special people in his life – people he saw every day, sent the price of gas and new flyer deals to, and discussed the newest favourite technology with. He loved his dog Jet, his friends at Mullins in Mira, stopping in to talk to the boys at Keltic Kubota, he would stop to talk to whoever he saw when driving by, just to name a few of the things that brought him joy. To know Sid was to know his talent as a great storyteller.
As per Sid’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. There will be no service.
