Obituary of Sia Maroudas
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Athanasia (Sia) Maroudas on Monday May 15th, 2023, peacefully in her home, surrounded by loving family.
Sia was born in Alissos, Greece on September 5th, 1936 to Polihronis and Kondilia Papadopoulos and immigrated to Canada where she met the love of her life, Konstantinos Maroudas. The pair married in 1966, and they created a life of 57 years together, and a family that was her greatest joy. Her children, Peter (Tammy), Andy (Dora), and Christine (Harry), in turn, gave her grandchildren which were an incredible gift and source of love and fulfillment to her. Stanley, Fotina, Dean, Ethan, Demi, and Ryan, were a daily part of her life and she found immense joy watching them grow up.
Athanasia leaves us to reunite with her brothers Konstantinos, Ioannis, and Christos, and sister Despina, leaving behind her youngest sister, Evaggelia.
Amongst those saddened by her passing are her nieces, nephews, God children, cousins, and all her friends that had the good fortune to know her. Sia had the gentlest of dispositions, the kindest heart, and a radiant smile which will be both missed and always remembered.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines. First Thrice Holy Hymn Service/Trisagio will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Friday May 19 at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. with Burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that any donations in Athanasia’s memory be made to St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church.
