Obituary of Shirley Hellen Scoville
It is with heavy hearts, yet with a profound hope inspired by Christian faith, that the family of Shirley Hellen (Moore) Scoville, of Quispamsis, NB, wife of Murray Scoville, announces her passing, which occurred on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Minto, New Brunswick, on April 13, 1941, Shirley was the daughter of the late Bramwell Moore (born in Yorkshire, England) and the late Pauline (Skriptzik) Moore (born in Werne, Germany).
Shirley was a homemaker and will be remembered for her deep love for her family and home. She was happiest when hosting family gatherings and cooking special meals for her loved ones. Christmas was her favourite season of the year, and she looked forward to the annual Christmas Eve service at her home, during which family members participated in singing, reading, and storytelling. Shirley had a soft spot for children, demonstrated early in her life when she worked at the New Brunswick Protestant Orphans’ Home in Saint John, NB. Later, she became a proud foster parent with NB Social Development, tending for over 50 years to the needs of children under her care as her own. Shirley was happy to see her family grow and was significantly invested in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Murray; sons, Rev. Todd (Ruth) Scoville of Quispamsis, NB and Michael (Crystal) Scoville of Saint John, NB; daughters, Shara (Mark) Wiggins of Quispamsis, NB and Leigh Ann Forrest of Halifax, NS; brothers, Melvin (Rosetta) Moore of Westboro, MA, Murray (Rose) Moore of Cumberland Bay, NB, and David (Bonnie) Moore of Minto, NB; sisters, Jane (late Don) Pike of Saint John, NB, May (late Harold) Fraser of Chipman, NB, and Mary Ann (Fred) Wyllie of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Scoville, Joshua (Melody) Scoville, Brittany Scoville, Max Scoville, Myles Scoville, Ben Wiggins, Luke Wiggins, Abby Wiggins, Andrew Forrest, Hannah (Zach) Coleman, Sarah (Justin) Harrison, Rachel Forrest, Jordan Forrest, and Noah Forrest; great- grandchildren, James Scoville, Madelyn Scoville, Darius Irving, Isaac Scoville, Caleb Scoville, and Sage Harrison; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by brothers, five-year-old Leonard Moore, George (Ellen) Moore, Winston (Tenna) Moore, and Thomas Moore; sisters, five-year-old Emma Mae Moore and Hilda (late Alton) Hoyt; and great-grandson, Tyler Scoville.
The family extends its special thanks to those who cared for Shirley, including Dr. Alexandra Ross and her team of physicians, and the Saint John Regional Hospital nurses and staff, including those of the 3BN Palliative Care Unit.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private memorial will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)
