O’Neill, Shirley – Passed away peacefully at Caressant Care McLaughlin, on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 89. Shirley Elizabeth O’Neill (née Green) was born on April 4, 1934 in Lindsay, Ontario, daughter of Milton and Elizabeth Green.
As a teenager she met Paul Thomas O’Neill at a local dance hall, and they married in 1962. They resided in Oshawa together for many years and after a long career at General Motors, Shirley retired in 1986 and enjoyed life with her beloved husband Paul. Never one to sit idle, Shirley took on many jobs in her retirement. She worked at a local Hardware store, was a crossing guard, helped at a local accounting business, and did volunteer work at the Oshawa Hospital. Eventually Shirley and Paul moved to Little Britain, where they built their dream home, closer to family. After many years they moved to a condo in Lindsay, where Shirley enjoyed taking care of her gardens.
Shirley was an avid sports fan; both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays were her favorite teams.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Paul (2013). Shirley will be missed by her brother-in-law, Pat O’Neill (Bonnie), sisters-in-law, Beth Smith, and Martha Creally, and her many nieces and nephews. As well as her favorite caregiver’s at Caressant Care (Jen, Kendra and Nikki), Shirley kept you on your toes but the 3 of you could keep her smiling and laughing. Thank you for your care.
As per Shirley’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place in the spring of 2024. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Stoddart Funeral Home.
As expressions of sympathy, a donation can be made to the Arthritis Society Canada, or to St. Mary’s Church – Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
