DOWNS, Shirley Ann (nee Thompson) – suddenly at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Friday, October 6th, 2023 in her 57th year. Beloved wife of Jack Downs of Simcoe. Cherished mother of Katelyn Downs (Abe Johnston) and Rebecca Downs (Craig Brick), both of Simcoe. Lovingly remembered by her sisters Patricia Miles (Brian Allen) of Sutton, Sharon Hewitt (Harold) of Tillsonburg and by brothers Gary Thompson (Nancy), Brian Thompson (Christine), Gord Thompson, all of Simcoe and Richard Thompson of Toronto. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews & extended family. Predeceased by her parents, the late Ken & Peggy Thompson. Shirley appreciated the simple things in life. She loved gardening, buying trinkets for the yard, feeding chipmunks, spending time with her husband Jack while playing ball with Sophie; Northern Reflections sweaters; collecting lighthouses; her cat Tater; spending time with family; and of course, her daily iced caps. Her daughters were a big part of her life and together went on many adventures; small ones like the dog park with Sophie, or further adventures to Vancouver and NYC. They loved spending time together and always had a good laugh. Both her girls were proud to call her “Mom”. The recent loss of her mother Peggy was especially hard on Shirley, as she was her best friend. We take comfort in knowing she is with both her mother and father. Friends are invited to share their memories of Shirley with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Mullin officiating. Cremation will follow with a private interment of ashes at a later date. Those wishing to donate in memory of Shirley are asked to consider the Simcoe & District Humane Society.
