1935-2023
With sadness and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce
the death of Shirley Adeline Coughlin at Central Carleton Nursing
Home. She went to be with her Lord on ???, 2023. Shirley was born in
Cloverdale, NB on October 9, 1935. She was the daughter of the late
Sam and Alice (Morgan) Webber.
Shirley left home at a very young age to pursue work
beginning with CN Telecommunications, working in several offices in NB
and NS. Her next employment was with Day and Ross, spending most of
her 28 years as a claims adjustor. After her retirement, she was asked
to work in McCain’s Public Relations office.
Shirley was actively involved in her community. She was a
member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch 24 for almost 70 years, with many years spent as
secretary/treasurer. She was a canvasser and area co-ordinator for the
Heart and Stroke Foundation. Shirley served a term on the Board of
Directors of the Central Carleton Nursing Home.
She leaves behind her long-time companion, Kenneth (Buddy)
Barss, her daughter, Dixie (Terry Jefferson), her sons, Danny (Shaune)
and Michael (Leslie) and a brother, Dale (Roberta) Webber. Shirley had
five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nine nieces and
nephews. She had a multitude of friends, but three were special: Vera
Girvan, Lore Fredstrom and Diane Colson. She also leaves behind her
canine companion, Mya. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her
husband, Harry Coughlin, brother, Lloyd Webber and sister, Greta
(Ronald) Reid.
A service of celebration will be held on March 20th, 2023 at
the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street, Hartland, at 1:30 p.m. with
Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. If you wish, you may visit with
Shirley’s family from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The interment
will be held in the spring in the Cloverdale Cemetery.
If you wish to remember Shirley with a donation, we suggest
the Carleton County Animal Shelter, Central Carleton Nursing Home, the
Heart and Stroke Foundation or Trinity United Church.
Her family would like to thank the staff of 2 East at URVH,
Dr Rudy Stocek and especially the staff of CCNH for their exemplary
care of Shirley.
