Shelbie is the true definition of love. Since the beginning Shelbie has been a miracle to this world, she displayed a love like no other. She enjoyed all the things life had to offer.
Shelbie Melissa Gomez, a daughter, aunty, sister, and friend went home to her sovereign Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Royal University Hospital, in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, surrounded by her friends and family.
Shelbie was born March 23, 2005, in Bogota, Colombia to Wilson Gomez and Martha Ramos. Shelbie attended Waldheim high school from the years of 2010-2023. Excelling in the fine arts, industrial arts, and law studies.
Shelbie was a self-proclaimed dancing queen, a spaghetti connoisseur, and an anime fanatic. She loved singing and being a dog-mom to Cleo and Frank Gomez.
In the summers you could find Shelbie working alongside her father and spending the weekends doing “girl things” with her sisters. She loved movies, pickles, getting her nails done, ice cream, McDonald’s, and dying her hair cool and funky colours. Shelbie loved dad-jokes and made sure you always had a smile on your face. She enjoyed tending to the community garden, going for walks around town, drinking “agua-panela”, eating “fritas” and spending most of her time working on her art. Shelbie volunteered to paint the high school stage for one of the spring plays and stayed extra hours after school to work on costume preparation.
She lived a life not many are able to live, a life full of love and lots and lots of happiness. She made everyone around her feel loved, and so welcomed. Shelbie is sunshine in human form.
Her greatest passions in life was being an older sister and a daughter. She continually worked on perfecting her art and could be seen smiling and dancing, even in her last days.
Shelbie is survived by her father Wilson Gomez (Enid Ruiz); mother Martha Ramos (Nessar Hossini); sisters Ingrid Turner, Leidy Gomez, Lia Gomez, Zeyda Gomez; brothers, Wilson Gomez, Johao Gomez, Jason Turner; nieces Lily Turner and Eleanor Turner; and her beloved grandma, grandpa and many many many cousins, aunties, and uncles.
Shelbie was diagnosed with lung cancer, at the beginning of this year. After a hard and well fought battle, Shelbie is now resting peacefully and eternally with the Lord.
We will miss you Shelbie, but
Know you have run your race and have done it well.
Everyone who knew you is better because of it.
Even the flowers, birds and butterflies want to say thank you.
You are a daughter who walked with God through everything.
A part of us went with you. The day God took you home.
But we know heaven is rejoicing and the Lord is shouting:
“She’s home, she’s home, my daughter is home!!”
Save us your best dance moves, your best dad-joke, your most beautiful artwork,
for we will see you so soon, Shelbie.
She was the kind of beauty
That gave the artists their muse
A soul so radiant
That you could see her
In every painting
Piece of poetry
And song
That ever mattered to you
