It is with sad hearts that Sheila’s family announces her passing on July 31st, 2024, at Victoria Hospital London, in her eighty seventh year, ending a most beautiful life. Sheila passed away peacefully and pain free with her loving family by her bedside. She leaves her devoted husband of sixty-six years, Hugh, her loving children Caron Henry (Bob), Alan Young and Eleanor Courneya (Neil). Her proud and loving grandchildren Jessica van Koeverden, Angela Young, Tyler Courneya, Amanda Henry (Joe), Michelle Young, Mackenzie Young and Cassidy Young as well as three great-grandsons, Andreas (AJ), Greysen and Hayden will miss their Gran. Predeceased by her sister Agnes Steingart, she leaves behind brother-in-law John Young (Jenny), sister-in-law Janette Kohnke (Hardy), along with many nieces and nephews. Sheila was born in Glasgow, Scotland to her parents, Harry and Jessie Stewart. She married Hugh in 1958, immediately after his return from active service in the British army in the Middle East. In 1960 they immigrated to Canada with their 5-month old, daughter Caron. After brief spells in Toronto, Saskatchewan and Oshawa, London became home in 1963. Sheila was adored by everyone who knew her. Her compassionate nature and generous spirit, along with a readiness for a party earned her many lifelong friends, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her growing family. She will forever be in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.
The family has arranged for an informal ‘Celebration of Life’ at the Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, 465 Sunningdale Road West, in London, on Thursday, August 15th. Friends are encouraged to drop in between 4pm and 7pm on that date.
