Sheila
Catherine Hughes, 64, of Habitant, Kings Co., passed away peacefully
in Valley Hospice, Kentville, surrounded by family, on Thursday,
October 3, 2024. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late
Clayton and Shirley (England) Murphy.
Sheila
will be missed by her husband of 39 years, Peter Hughes; daughter,
Ashley and son, Matthew. She is survived by sisters, Heather (Ron)
Monteith and Sheri Murphy; her nieces and nephews, Jeffrey and Melissa
Monteith, Clayton and Jesse Murphy. She was predeceased by her
daughter, Emily, her parents and her brothers, Brian and Blaine
Murphy.
Sheila
graduated from Vocational School, Kentville. She went on to work at
Blueberry Acres. She took time to raise her children, returning to
work at the Fireside Café in Canning with her friend Elaine
MacNutt. After the café closed, together they managed the
Canning Rink canteen. Lastly, she was the baker at Elderkins Farm
Market, Wolfville. Sheila was known far and wide for her baked
bread.
Cremation has taken place and there
will be no visitation. The funeral service (with livestream
available), followed by a time of fellowship, will be held at 2:00
p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. Greg White officiating. Interment will take place in the
St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to the IWK Children’s
Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements
