Sheila Barbara May Clyke, aged 82, of Truro, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21st, 2024.
Born on January 3rd, 1942, in Priestville, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Abuellias Orora (Jewell) Bowden.
Prior to her retirement, Sheila was the manager of the Truro Mall for several years. Before that, she managed a travel agency. Throughout her life and well into her retirement, she dedicated herself to the service of God and helping others. She was an active member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, she became a lay pastor, led Bible study groups, prayer chains, and served wherever she could. Sheila was also very active as a volunteer in the community. She served as an Emergency & Disaster Response Instructor and a House Fire Responder for the Red Cross. Additionally, over the years she served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers & Sisters, Truro Boy’s and Girls Club, the Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia, and the Colchester & District Multicultural Association.
When she was not busy volunteering in the community, she loved spending time with her friends and family, and she cherished her grandchildren.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Bruce Clyke; sons, Bruce and Bobby (Leslie) Clyke of Halifax; daughter, Jaqueline (Edward) Perez of Towanda, Pennsylvania and grandchildren, Emily Ann, Dante, Mariah, Alexander, Victoria (Kevin), Mia and Mateo.
She is also survived by brothers, Honorary Deacon Brian (Brenda) Bowden of New Glasgow and Peter (Karen) Bowden of Halifax, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and Dennis Bowden.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, from 1-2 pm at the Immanuel Baptist Church, followed immediately by the funeral service officiated by Rev. Michael Fredericks, with light refreshments afterward. The spring interment will be announced at a later time. The service will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend – Youtube/ImmanuelTruro.
Donations may be made in memory of Sheila to the Canadian Red Cross, Community Cancer Clinic (Colchester East Hants Health Centre), and the Alzheimer Society.
