On August 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, Sheila Hryniuk, 54, recently of Saskatoon and Yorkton, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Sheila was born on November 21, 1968 to Grace and Julius Hryniuk of Prud‘Homme, SK. In 1986, after graduating high school in Prud’Homme, Sheila attended the Saskatoon Business College where she received a certificate in office administration. In 1991, Sheila received her Recreation and Leisure Diploma from SIAST, Kelsey Campus in Saskatoon. Sheila then moved to Regina where she worked for the Saskatchewan Recreation Society, now the Saskatchewan Association of Recreation Professionals. While employed there, Sheila enrolled in Physical Activity Studies at the University of Regina completing classes until she acquired her degree in 1997. This led to a career in the non-profit sport, culture and recreation sector.
With a move to east central Saskatchewan, she began work as a contractor with various community organizations before becoming the Executive Director of the Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation District, a position she held until her passing.
Sheila loved to learn about people from all over the world and was an avid dance and hockey mom for her kids and their friends, encouraging them to lead an active lifestyle and make good choices. Sheila was an avid advocate for community volunteerism, active living and live performances in arts and sports. Sheila had a passion for Ukrainian Dance, which she was involved with her entire life. She danced with Yevshan in Saskatoon at the same time teaching dance in North Battleford and Rosetown. Sheila completed her last performance in 2022. Sheila was a parent volunteer, Costume Coordinator and then Chairperson for the Yorkton Kalyna Ukrainian Dance Club.
Sheila was pre-deceased by her Baba Mary and Gidi Fred Hryniuk, Baba Marion and Grandpa Alex Miskolczi and Father-in-law Glen McLeod. Sheila is survived by her husband Darcy McLeod, son Jaxon and daughter Jenna; her parents Grace and Julius Hryniuk, siblings Travis Hryniuk (Angie), Kim Sopotyk (Dale), Tracey Hryniuk (Mike) and Derek Hryniuk (Rhea); her Mother-in-law Lois McLeod, brother-in-law Stu McLeod (Tara), sisters-in-law Joanne McLeod (Pete) and Donna McLeod (Kenton) along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends.
The Funeral Service will be held in Prud’Homme, SK at the Sts. Donatien-et-Rogatien Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 24th at 10:00 am, with Rev. Fr. Andre Lalach as officiant. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.
