Sheila Ann Easun (Rogers), age 88, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Stratford General Hospital with her daughters by her side.
She is lovingly remembered by her family, daughters Jane Herlick (Paul) and Cathy Graver (Dan) and known as “Gran” to her six grandchildren: Nick Graver (Michelle), Kate Herlick (Josh, Ariyah), Emma Herlick, Aaron Graver, Ali Graver (Adam) and Abby Herlick (Issak) and great grandson, Hudson.
Sheila will be missed by her sister Cathie Banks (Darryl), and nieces and nephews: Janice Miller (Lorne), Carol Bell (Jack), Steven Gould, Susan Easun, Marilyn Easun (Grant), Barb Stuhlemmer (Brian), Heather Ghasemiyani (Sam), John Timbrell (Gail), and her birthday buddy, Janice Stewart (Earl).
Born in Kincardine to Helen and Art Rogers, she spent most of her childhood there, except for a period during the war where the family moved to Ottawa for her father’s military service. After high school, she trained as a nurse at Stratford General Hospital, class of 1956.
She met a handsome fellow (Leslie Easun 1932-1989) on the golf course in Kincardine and on May 11, 1957, they were married. They moved to the farm near Fullarton to start a life in the country. Family was very important to Sheila, and she made sure her children grew up knowing all their aunts, uncles and cousins. Birthdays and holidays meant large family gatherings.
She retired from nursing in 2000, after working in several LTC facilities – Hillside, Riverside (Mitchell), The Maples (Tavistock) and Kingsway (St Mary’s).
Sheila was an artist and excelled in whatever she put her mind to – taking oil painting classes at night school in Mitchell, tole painting on tin ware and cleaning up in all art categories at the Mitchell Fair. Many weekends were spent selling her tole painted wares at craft shows and Art-in-the-Park.
In 1982, she moved to Stratford to her dream ‘Ontario Cottage’ and then to the Oxford Apartments in 2017.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor at Stratford General Hospital for their compassionate care.
A private family interment will be held prior to a celebration of Sheila’s life, which will take place in the chapel of Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services, 804 Ontario St., Stratford, on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Visitation from 1:00 – 3:30 pm with a small service immediately following at 3:30 pm.
If desired, donations in memory may be made to the Stratford General Hospital Foundation directly at www.sghfoundation.org or through the funeral home at www.jarfh.com. 519-271-5062.
