Larkin, Shannon Howard –78 of Wood’s Harbour, NS, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Vesta Mae (Nickerson) at his side. He was born on September 26, 1945, in Wood’s Harbour to the late Howard and Veronica (Brannen) Larkin. Shannon is survived by his wife of 51 years Vesta Mae (Nickerson) Larkin, his beloved daughters, Lisa (Todd) Nickerson of Stoney Island, Michelle (Robin) Goreham of Clark’s Harbour, Paula (Paul) Hatfield of Wood’s Harbour, and Deanna d’Entremont of Argyle. Grandchildren Jordan (Katie), Farren (Monica), Jared (Courtney), Joshua (Shawnda), Tyler (Robynn), Shannon Paige (Robert), Celeste (Matthew), Christopher (Kirsten), Lucas, Hannah, and Jack. Eight great-grandchildren, Bruin, Callie, Kayden, Owen, Larkyn, Kylen, Sophia, and Teagan. Brother Hugh Larkin and sister Beatrice Marden. Shannon was pre-deceased by his beloved first wife Jennifer (Nickerson) Larkin, infant daughter Shelby Jaunita, parents Howard and Veronica (Brannen) Larkin, infant grand-daughter Shelby Jaunita Hatfield, Brothers Arthur, Gordon, and sister Mayola. Shannon loved his family dearly. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. His relationship with his siblings, nieces and nephews, and extended family was cherished. He especially loved spending time at his cottage surrounded by family, friends, music, laughter, and food. His good nature and generous spirit touched everyone he met. In his early years, he worked for a time on the Lake Boats in Ontario and enjoyed reminiscing about his adventures there. He returned to Wood’s Harbour and worked for a time at Sea Life Fisheries and the Co-Op. He then began his fishing career with Captains Shirley Nickerson and Ronnie Crowell. He later bought his first boat, the Sherekan and spent the rest of his fishing career captaining his own vessels, two of which were named the Miss Mae I and II. In retirement, he sold seafood from his own fish truck in Bridgewater where he met and entertained his customers with his stories. He enjoyed spending time in his barn visiting with friends, making sugar-cured hams with Mae, building lighthouses for anyone he thought might need one and various other projects suggested by family and friends. There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our friends and community members who were there for us on the night of his passing. The family would like to thank the VON for their care and compassion, the Wood’s Harbour-Shag Harbour First Responders, the numerous paramedics for all their assistance over the years and the wonderful staff of Huskilsons Funeral Home. Funeral services are under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A visitation will be held at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington on Saturday, October 14th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Wood’s Harbour at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15th, 2023 with Pastor Andrew Violette officiating. Memorial Donations can be made to the Wood’s Harbour Clubhouse Playground or a charity of choice.
