CELEBRATION OF LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Please join the family and friends of Sandra Hunter for a Celebration of Sandra’s Life to share refreshments, memories, and conversation, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Hickory Hills Residents Association (48 Wilson Avenue, Tillsonburg, ON N4G 5L6).

It is with sadness that we the family wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Sandra (“Sandy”) Elizabeth (Addison) Hunter, a resident of Hickory Hills, on January 28th, 2024, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 80. Sandy was born in Toronto, to Hilda (Walters) and Ambrose Addison. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 30 wonderful years, Colin Anthony Robson, of Tillsonburg. A caring mother to Dana Hunter (spouse Louise Simons), of England. Proud Nanny of Toby Hunter and Theo Hunter. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by her brother John Addison.
Sandra grew up in Parkdale, Toronto and her first job was with Bell Canada, but she decided to follow a nursing career. Sandy graduated from the Guelph School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1966. She worked in many hospitals over her career, including St. Josephs, St. Michael’s, Misericordia Health Centre (Winnipeg), Centenary Hospital and Markham Stouffville Hospital. Sandy’s leadership abilities were quickly recognised, and led her into Nursing Management roles, from head nurse to running the entire surgical suite. In the 1990’s, Sandy was headhunted by the King Fahad Hospital and she moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to run the Operating Rooms. It was there that Sandy met the love of her life, Colin, and they married in Niagara Falls, NY in September 1993. For many happy years, they lived in the Middle East, working and travelling (Japan, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and China). Following retirement, Colin and Sandy moved to Lindsay, Canada to begin their next set of adventures. Through their travels, they met lifelong friends at RV Parks, in Lindsay and Victoria Palms, in Texas. After a lengthy search, they settled into Hickory Hills, Tillsonburg, where they have spent many happy years.
Sandy was well-known and well-liked wherever she went. She particularly enjoyed games that brought people together, such as Euchre, Bridge, Hand and Foot, Washers and Mexican train, and taught many people to play all the above, including her family. She loved karaoke, and even found a hidden talent for the stage in the annual theatre production. And she always enjoyed a glass of wine, especially when shared with her many friends, on her patio or in the clubhouse, building many lovely memories for all.
In keeping with Sandy’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends, neighbours, and relatives may send condolences, share favourite memories, or contribute memorial donations in Sandy’s memory to the “Salvation Army, Tillsonburg” via Sandy’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg (519)842-4238, entrusted with all arrangements.
