Sandy Bergin, exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, in Edmonton, at the age of 72.
Sandy was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Yaciuk) Lutka of Welland, Ontario. She graduated from the University of Waterloo (St. Jerome’s College) and eventually came to Edmonton where she raised her family with her beloved husband, John. Sandy’s life was marked by love for her family and friends, care for the others, and dedication to community through non-profit work and volunteerism. She was an avid bowler, enthusiastic hostess, and excellent baker.
Sandy will be forever missed by her husband, John; daughters: Christine Garrity (Matt), Debrah Bergin Leia (Nathan Leia), and Elizabeth Bergin (Brock Wheeler); son Matthew Bergin (Kristin) and granddaughters: Paige, Ruth, and Claire. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Sharon Cerantola (Nick); and brother Willie Lutka (Ann); and many other family members and friends.
Sandy’s memory will be held close by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
The family welcomes all who knew Sandy to a prayer service on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 7:30 pm with a funeral mass on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10:30 am, both in St. Charles Catholic Church, 17511 112 Street NW, Edmonton. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sandy’s memory to YESS – Youth Empowerment & Support Services or to EmployAbilities Edmonton
