It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Salvatore Butera, beloved husband and father on November 25, 2024, in his 94th year. He became a widower to his late wife of 66 years, Grazia, in 2021. Salvatore was born January 25, 1930, in Montaperto, Sicilia. He will be deeply missed by his son Giuseppe and daughter-in-law Emma, his daughter Rosa and son-in-law James. He will be forever remembered as Nonno by his loving grandchildren, Daniela, Michael, Grazia, and Mathew. Beloved son of the late Giuseppe and Rosa Butera, Salvatore was the oldest of 5 brothers and sisters. Brother to late Carmelina (late Giovanni) Di Bartolo, late Giuseppina (late Paolo) Nachele, late Lorenzo (late Maria) Butera, and Calogero (Janice) Butera. Brother-in-law to Maria (Giuseppe) Calandrino, Giuseppina (late husband Vittorio) Di Pietro, late Pasquale (Maria) Baio, Carmela (Calogero) Butera, and Antonietta (late husband Elia) Castronovo. As a young man, Salvatore served in the Italian military for 2 years. He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed a good card game. Salvatore will be with us in everything we do and will always be in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Joesph’s Hospital in the Sister Mary Grace wing on the 5th floor.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton on Thursday, November 28th from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 29th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 20 Idlewood Ave, Hamilton, followed by burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In Memoriam donations can be made the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
