Remembered in Love…
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Sadie V. (MacBurnie) Tattrie on August 14th, 2023, at age 72. Born in Tatamagouche on July 24th, 1951, Sadie was the daughter of the late Pete MacBurnie and granddaughter of Beldon and Grace (Moody) Joudrie.
Sadie married the love of her life, Hector, on May 17th, 1969. Together they raised two children. Their home was a place where you would always feel welcome and enjoy Sadie’s home cooking. And you could be sure she would be packing some up to send home with you when you left! As someone who absolutely loved Christmastime, giving gifts and baking treats for her friends and family brought Sadie immense joy. Each year, her enormous Christmas tree would be picked out several weeks in advance, and it would always be beautifully and meticulously decorated. Additionally, she made stunning natural Christmas wreaths for many years, always ensuring her family members had one hanging on their door. Sadie worked various jobs over the years but found her true calling when she became a personal care worker. She began working at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche when it opened in 1980, where she stayed until her retirement in 2016. Sadie was passionate about caring for the residents, as well as her coworkers at Willow Lodge. She cherished the lifelong friendships she made along the way; to Sadie, they were family.
Sadie had a zest for life and was always up for some fun. Whether it was a lunch date, shopping trips with friends, or a day at the pool with the girls, she would be there! Always showing up with a smile and probably asking, «Do you like my new purse?» Her love for purses was always a fun topic of conversation. Over the years, she enjoyed many Bus Tours, overnight trips, and bingo games with her sisters. These trips made for many wonderful memories with Sadie’s exuberant and unforgettable laugh.
Sadie took great pride in caring for her family. They were, without a doubt, her whole world. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Sadie leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Hector Tattrie; her son, Glen Tattrie (Krista) and daughter, Charlene Tattrie; her absolute pride and joy, her granddaughter, Grace Reynolds, whom she affectionately called “Honeybee”; three beloved, «fur grandbabies,» Nelson, Gus and Gunner. Also surviving are her sisters, Marlene MacBurnie, Weymouth, Sandee Park (Brian), Alberta and brother, Chris MacBurnie (Debbie), Tatamagouche; brothers in-law, Aubrey Tattrie (Evelyn), Leo Tattrie (Darlene), Bobby Tattrie (Elizabeth); sisters in-law, Pauline Perrin (Frank), Marilyn Tattrie, Lorraine Tattrie, all of Tatamagouche and Doreen Tattrie, Truro. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces, nephews and chosen family, whom she loved and cared for, spoiling them often by taking orders for their favourite treats. Sadie was predeceased by her sisters, Flora (and husband Karl) Wall, Jean (and husband, Leith) Mingo; her brother, David MacBurnie. Also predeceased are her father and mother in-law, Otis and Viva Tattrie; brothers-in-law, Truman Tattrie and Boyd Tattrie; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Family Graveside Service will be held in the French River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, French River Cemetery or a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
