Passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 81, with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of the late Barry Ricketts (1998).
Dear mother of Craig Ricketts, Kerry Motz (Rob), Kristy Millington (Tony), Chad Ricketts (Jill).
Dear grandma to Hillary, Brad, Avery (Kathryn), Katelyn, Jake, Zachary, and Ashlyn.
Predeceased by her brother Jack Dunn, sister Ann Spencer and her brother and sister-in-law
Bob and Bev Peirce.
Ruth was a very loving, caring, genuine, funny and quirky individual, always witty with a good sense of humour. Being a devoted and loving grandmother came very naturally to her. Home decor was always a true passion she developed over the years and being a bona fide fashionista has consistently been part of her identity. She was an avid animal lover and a real sports enthusiast, especially when it came to baseball and tennis. Ruth had a palpable sweet tooth, where a plethora of candies would often be hoarded in her cupboards and drawers. Not only were sweets dear to her, she was also an avid foodie. The spirit of Christmas overtook her yearly, where an enormous assortment of gifts could be found not just under but within a ten foot radius of the tree. Making Christmas fun and surprising for her children was a high priority. During the spring and summer months, she could be found outdoors, soaking up many of the sun’s rays. Ruth was a trained and dedicated Registered Nurse, working in various hospitals and assisted living facilities within Southern Ontario. She was always one to readily share her thoughts and opinions on any subject matter. Her inner strength, strong will, resilient and persistent nature allowed her to muscle through the many challenges she faced throughout her lifetime. Ruth spent her last few years at Chartwell, Clair Hills in Waterloo, enjoying new friendships, social events, and of course, her weekly visits to the tuck shop.
A special thank you is extended to the doctors, nurses and the dedicated support staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for the caring treatment that Ruth received in her final days.
Ruth’s family will receive relatives and friends for her Celebration of Life commencing promptly at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749- 8467, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of floral arrangements, and as expressions of sympathy, donations to Pet Patrol (Elmira) Inc. or the KW Humane Society would be greatly appreciated, as Ruth was an avid animal lover.
