It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Ricca (nee Smith) in her 85th year on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Healthcare after a courageous journey. She was welcomed to her forever home by the love of her life, Cav. Guido Ricca on the occasion of his 90th Birthday. Knowing they are together again and free of illness is of great comfort to all of us.
Predeceased by her devoted husband of more than 55 years, Cav. Guido Ricca who has waited patiently for her since 2014. Loving mother of Guy (Lorraine), Michael (Lisa) and Lisa (Steven). Cherished grandmother of Brian (Megan), Alison, Bobby (Brittany), Emily (Eric) and Hannah. Great-grandmother to Matteus and Allesia. Daughter of the late Percival and Elva Smith. Predeceased by Derwyn (Mary) Smith, Joan, Bernice and Reta Smith, Joyce (William) O’Neill, Trevor Smith, and Lloyd (Betty) Smith. Sister-in-law of Beverley Smith. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Anna (Diego) Rallo, Amelia (Raffaele) Russello, Italia Romana and brothers-in-law Sgt. Major Emanuele, and Roberto (Gina) Ricca. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and Ana Pereira.
Ruth was born and raised in Hamilton, the youngest of 8 children. After graduating from teacher’s college, she taught Grade 4 at Viscount Montgomery and was loved by her students. We never stopped learning from her and the values she taught us will continue to guide us. She was our best friend, greatest supporter, and continuous inspiration. After raising her children and retiring from teaching, she joined Guido in the family furniture business where they worked side by side for years. They embodied the principles of family, kindness, unwavering support, and generosity. They were strong in their faith and together they faced life’s challenges with love and strength.
Thanks, and gratitude to Dr. Ligori and the medical and nursing team of the St. Joe’s ICU for their compassionate and dignified care. Special thanks to Drs. Leda and Lino Lagrotteria for decades of care and dedication.
Visitation will be taking place at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL (43 Barton St. E) on Monday April 24th, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. A funeral service to take place in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday April 25th, 2023, at 12 noon with visitation starting at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
