Ruth Ann McTavish, also known as Ruth McKeen, our dear mother
passed away at the DECH in Fredericton, on November
8th, 2024.
Born May 3rd, 1941, in Saint John, New Brunswick. She was
83.
Mom was employed as a waitress all her life, and she was one
of the best there was! Her longer places of employment were the
Diplomat and Pizza Delight. Most of her longtime friendships were made
with fellow coworkers.
Mom’s home was an open door for all who came to
visit. She would always want to make sure someone has something to
eat. Not often did you leave hungry, even if you had already
eaten.
Her home was the staple at Christmas time! Everyone would
stop in, even if it was for a quick hello, and of course a feed and
some Christmas cheer! Mom loved any celebration so she could buy or
shop for someone.
Mom and Glen were always up for a game of cards, especially
with their food friend Winnie Lean. Rummy was the fame of choice.
«Let the cheating begin!», was always heard with
laughter.
Mom loved her home in Douglas. Her favorite spot to be, was
at the kitchen table having tea and enjoying her huge wood stove. If
you came to visit, be prepared to be good and hot, she stooged that
stove, so the sweat was dripping off you.
Mom had many animals and loved them all. Her favorite were
her kitties, whom she always got the greatest kick out of, teasing
them and loving their gentle way with her.
She loved to travel. She went as far as Vegas, Florida,
Nashville, and New York.
She and Glen would do a lot of camping in their younger years
and go for long drives to visit family and friends.
Mom enjoyed cooking. She was a wonderful cook. Huge meals
were always brewing on the stovetop or in the oven, and she loved to
bake when she had time. Her cakes and seafood casseroles were the
best!
In 2020 when mom’s health started to decline, she
had the most amazing care workers come in to care for her and set her
up, so she was able to be at home. As time went by, she then had to be
placed in care at Northside Minto Residence, where mom made new
friends and once again, had wonderful workers to care for her. A huge
thank you to Lori and the others that were there for
her.
A year and a half later, it was decided to bring her closer
to Fredericton, so she went to Shannex, Medley Hall, and had resided
there since April of 2023.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Theresa Enman (Frank
McCafferty), and her son Glen McKeen, and 2 sons in Toronto, Mitchell
and Robert Enman. Her stepchildren Glenda McKeen Noble (Stephen),
Rodney McKeen, Dean McKeen (Sharon). Grandchildren Heather Blair,
Raine McKeen, Daniel Beattie, Patrick Beattie (Megan). Two great
grandchildren Connor Enman Burgess, and Addison Blair. Many nieces and
nephews. Special friends Francis Pond and Lucille Demerchant. And her
cat Charlie.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Glendon McKeen, daughter
Margaret Ann, son Terry Enman, and step David McKeen, and her special
sister Margaret Mitton.
A big thank you to Junita Furlotte, Sharon Turner, and Tina.
And thank you to all the staff from both homes for making
mom’s stay a comfortable one, and for going above and beyond
for her and us. You were all amazing!
There will be a small memorial service on Friday November
15th, from 2pm until 4pm, at Bishop’s
Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks, if you’re
able, for donations to be made to the SPCA, because Mom loved animals
so much.
Always loved and remembered,
Your Children
