On March 7, 2023, at the age of 90, in the same way he lived, Russell Tymos passed away peacefully and gently to be with his Savior and Lord.
Russell will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anne, and his special Winnipeg families; Jeff (Amanda), Stephanie (Darian), Jennifer (Zach), Michael, Jamie (Julia), Mila, Marcia (Gary), Mirjana (Justin), Henry, Sam, Caleb, Lucy, James (Olga), and Andrew. He is survived by 3 sisters, 1 brother and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, 5 brothers, and 1 sister.
Russell was born in Minitonas, MB and grew up in the Swan River area. After completing high school, he worked for 2 years on a power dam in northern B.C. He then attended the Manitoba Normal School and began his 32-year teaching career at Woodlands, MB followed by many years with the St. James Assiniboia School Division. During his career, he particularly enjoyed teaching history and geography and set up co-curricular programs in photography, regularly organizing a camera club wherever he taught.
Russ’s hobbies included woodworking and nature photography. Russ and Anne spent many summers camping, canoeing, hiking, and travelling across Canada. When asked about other travel, Russ would quote John Howard Payne, “Let others delight mid new pleasures to roam, but give me, oh, give me, the pleasures of home!” Russ also enjoyed the winter season because there was more time for reading, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.
At the age of 18 Russ accepted Jesus as his Savior. He endeavored to live a life of grace and integrity. He was an active member of Calvary Temple as an usher, Sunday School teacher and library assistant.
Russell’s kind gentle manner, genuine smile and twinkle in his eyes endeared him to family, friends, and caregivers alike.
