Ruben Hartfelder Obituary
On Monday December 2nd, 2024 Mr. Ruben Hartfelder of Claresholm, AB passed away at the age of 84 years at the High River General Hospital.
Ruben is survived by his children: Cheryl (Rolly) Hartfelder of Calgary, Sonya (Lee) Nelson of Stavely, Dan (Marilyn) Hartfelder of Claresholm; sister Elaine (Bob) Wagner; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Ruben was predeceased by his wife Gloria of 64 years, son Andy, grandson Ryley, sisters Irene and Diane, brothers Allen and Harvey, and parents Ernest and Lydia.
Ruben was born November 24 1940 on the family farm east of Calmar, AB. He met Gloria in Leduc and they married on July 18, 1959. They settled in Claresholm in 1961 when Ruben was transferred there with his work for the Bank of Montreal. Ruben left the bank to work for the Town of Claresholm, Waldren Ranch, and finally with the MD of Willow Creek where he retired at the age of 55. As retirement did not suit him he decided to put his carpentry skills to work with his son, Dan. He also built sheds for the UFA, along with other odd jobs in town.
Ruben will be remembered for his generous contributions to the Claresholm community. Ruben was an active volunteer within the Town of Claresholm with his greatest efforts put into serving with the Claresholm Fire Deprtment for 37 years, many as Fire Chief. He received the Award of the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, First Bar in 1993 and Second Bar in 2004 for his longstanding service.
Ruben was an avid outdoorsman man, spending countless hours in the Porcupine Hills. He loved camping, hunting and fishing. Ruben would never pass up the opportunity to collect treasures, whether it be through metal detecting or garage sales. He delighted in sharing his finds with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Not only was Ruben a loving father and grandfather, he was also a kind man who left a lasting impression on every person he met. He will be greatly missed by all.
At his request, there will be no service.
Memorial donations can be made to the Claresholm Fire Deptartment. Cheques must be made payable to the Town of Claresholm with Fire Department Donation written in the memo.
