Roy Shiner; beloved Husband to (the late) Veronica Shiner (Norman), cherished Father to Sandra de la Chevotiere (Duane), Diane Kapitan (Steve) and Karen Shiner (Mark), admired Grandfather to Matthew Kapitan (Ria), Amanda de la Chevotiere (Neil), Jennifer Consitt (Stephen), Jazmin Shiner (Blake) and Revel Charette, Great-Grandfather, Brother, and Friend passed away Saturday, April 29th at KHSC.
The life of such an amazing man cannot easily be condensed to a few words and those that were blessed to be loved and known by him will feel his passing deeply.
Born on April 24th, 1934 in Castle Cary, England, Roy was an avid football (soccer) player, enthusiast and supporter who pursued a long-standing and prestigious career in Aerospace Engineering.
At 16, he met Veronica, with whom he spent 73 wonderful years, 67 of which they were married. As the story goes, when he saw her from the bus walking her bicycle in the opposite direction, he assured those nearby that she would someday be his wife. And though it took him a couple of tries to secure her heart, she was, in fact, the girl he would marry someday.
During their time together Roy and Veronica would grow their family with 3 girls of their own, who in turn provided the love of 3 spouses, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom looked up to and held Roy in great admiration.
Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through those he held dear and he will continue to be loved and missed by all who knew him.
An interment for both Roy and Veronica will be held Monday, May 8th at 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church – 7918 Loyalist Pkwy, Sandhurst, ON
