Peacefully with his family by his side, Roy passed away on Monday, December 23rd, 2024, in his 77th year. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda Louise (nee Kettle). Loving father of Lisa Jackson (Tanya) and Craig. Cherished «Grandpa Roy» of Reyna and Robbie. Survived by his siblings, Louise Schindel (late Art), Betty Metcalfe (late Jerry), Bill (Linda), and Joyce Calcutt (late Larry). Waiting for Roy at the Pearly Gates are his Mother and Father-in-law, Doris and Mac Kettle, and his sister and brother-in-law, Donna (Mini), Cliff Huff, Gail Caughlin, his parents Harold (1974) and Florence (1992), and siblings, Helen Armstrong (Ray), Ron (Marilynne), Patsy Cooper (Doug) and John. Roy also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was «the BEST Uncle», as per niece Krista Litrenta (Perry).
Born on June 30th, 1948, in Sarnia, he was raised in Point Edward his whole life. Roy was the youngest of 9 children. Roy met Linda, the love of his life, on a blind date in 1970. The two fell in love almost instantly and were married October 2nd, 1971. Together they raised their 2 children in Point Edward as well. Roy was a Service Technician at Praxair for 13 years before retiring in 2008. In his free time Roy enjoyed swimming in his daughter’s pool as well as cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs! Roy will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the staff for their care of Roy during the past several months. Bluewater Health, both Acute and Continuing Care units; Continuing Care unit, Petrolia; Bear Creek Terrace, LTC home, Petrolia and the ER and ICU staff at Bluewater Health Dec 22nd and 23rd. Thank you to the compassionate, caring and kind nurses, thank you for all that you do.
In keeping with Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations graciously accepted to the charities of Roy’s choice: St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Sarnia or The Alzheimer’s Society of Sarnia Lambton (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
