Roy Angus Foster of Wetaskiwin, formerly of Millarville, Alberta, passed away on June 15, 2023 at the age of 98 after a long hard fight.
Roy was predeceased by his father, John Henry; mother, Mabel Sarah (Smitherman); brothers, Dennis «Chubb», and Les and his wife of 72 years Ethel Foster (Longacre) who passed away in 2020.
He is survived by his children, Eldon Foster (Gabriele Cruse) of Forestburg, Gerald Foster of Wetaskiwin, Ferol Foster (Denis Fell) of Wetaskiwin, Brenda Oberding (Randy) of Calgary; grandchildren, Jeremy (Sandy), Jesse, Michelle (Blair), Brendan, Lisa (Paul); great grandchildren, Tyson, Thomas, Dakota and Mackenzie. Debbie Hawken from Wetaskiwin has been at Roy’s side for many years and has been a true life long friend.
Roy grew up in Millarville, Alberta, and here he helped his parents with the farm. Roy joined the Royal Canadian Air Force before he was 18 – he lied about his age to enlist. He was a Flight Engineer with 420 Snowy Owl Squadron. He retired from the forces in 1963.
He raised his children in Calgary and after they all left home he moved back to Millarville to live a simpler life. They then moved to Pigeon Lake, and then settled down in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
He volunteered in many capacities – Veterans Voices of Canada, and was very passionate about volunteering for the Poppy Fund and the Canadian Legion.
He was a very proud and humble man and he will be missed by his family and the many friends he made along his journey. He was a real people person and loved to meet new people and tell them the many interesting stories he had.
It was Roy’s wish that there be no public service.
