It is with great sadness we announce that Rowena Vivian (Bregg) Moffatt of Toronto, died peacefully at her home on December 6, 2023.
Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, February 20, 1926, Rena was the daughter of Elmer and Bertha Bregg. One of five sisters, of whom four were trained to become registered nurses.
Married on October 22, 1949, to Clarence Earle Moffatt in Regina; they were married 62 years until his death.
Rena was predeceased by her parents, four sisters, her husband Clarence (2011), and her son Ronald (1993).
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Carol Leslie (Roger Bailes – deceased), Douglas Raymond (Dan Wright), and Ronald James (April 19/62 – Sept.3/93).
Grandmother to Jennifer Liane (June3/76), Justin Traian (Mar 16/82), Andrea Nicole (Mar 21/83). Great grandmother to Marcus (Feb 26/14), Alexandra (April 28/16), Mayreau (April 26/19), Della (April 23/22). She is sister to Sheila St Mars (Paul), and aunt to Sarah, Becky and Joey.
After relocating to Don Mills in 1957 Rena and Clarence pursued their passion for curling at the Don Mills Curling Rink. She participated in women’s bonspiels throughout Ontario. After joining The Donalda Club in 1965, she continued to curl and (reluctantly) joined Clarence taking up the sport of Golf.
Having three children helped to elevate her cooking and baking talents. Very few meals were served without a freshly baked dessert. Rena learned the joys of travel late in life when she joined her daughter on trips and cruises through Europe. She also had a love for cottage life that saw her spend many long weekends and holidays in Muskoka, because it was always a hive of activity with friends and family. She was the envy of all of her friends and neighbors as she packed up to head to the Cayman Islands every year for an extended Christmas holiday. A tradition which continued until she was 95.
She will be remembered by friends and family as a warm, loving and gentle woman who selflessly put others before herself.
Her family is grateful to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care team for treating her end of life with such dignity and kindness. A huge thank you goes out to Dr. Marnie Howe, and primary nurse Michelle Williams for their kind and compassionate care for Rena and also for her family and caregivers.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on December 15th @ 2:00 PM in the Penthouse of Amica on the Avenue Retirement Home, 1066 Avenue Road, Toronto, ON.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, or to the charity of your choice.
