With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother Rosina “Rosa” Tassone (nee Valente), of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the age of 98 years.
Rosa was born in Spadola Catanzaro, Italy on April 9, 1925. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and children in 1962, which brought many hardships. Shortly after she lost her husband leaving her to raise her children on her own. Her perseverance and determination to provide a good life for herself and her children allowed her to overcome many challenges.
She dedicated her life to her family and had an amazing capacity for loving and caring for others. Her generosity, kindness, compassion, warmth, and her positive attitude were infectious. She was always ready to offer advice and her words of wisdom. When you were in her presence you always felt seen and heard. Rosa adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was a loving figure in their lives, they were always stars in her eyes and that was all that mattered to her. She will be greatly missed but the impact she made will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her and certainly will be remembered as an extraordinary woman.
Rosa is survived by her children, Bruna, Cosma (Frank), Maria, Kathy (Salvatore); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister Gina as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Luigi, her beloved son Francesco and son-in-law Lucio, mother Caterina and Father Luigi along with brothers Giuseppe, Francesco, and Bruno as well as sisters Teresa, Concetta, and Brunina.
The family would like to thank all who gave her heartfelt love and care, and treated her like your own mamma, nonna Rosa.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 18 Ave SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 0C2) on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
In living memory of Rosina Tassone, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
