Ronnie Melvin Helton – age 81 of Kodak left his earthly home and met his Savior Jesus face to face on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Ronnie was a man of few words who let his actions speak. He lived a life of service and was always willing to help someone in need, even if it meant going without. For many years in his younger days, he was a volunteer fireman with the Northview Volunteer Fire Department. He loved old Westerns, Walker Texas Ranger, listening and dancing to Motown classics, and especially enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping. Even though he grew up with no father, himself, he became a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who could be counted upon for love and support. He once remarked that he got married one day and the next day woke up with his new bride, three kids, and a dog in the bed. Ronnie endured numerous hardships and setbacks in his life, but he always met those challenges head-on and worked hard to support his family. While he was known for his rough and gruff exterior, on the inside he was incredibly loving and compassionate and always willing to sacrifice for others. To gain Ronnie as a friend was to gain a devoted friend for life.
Ronnie will be missed greatly by those who love him, but we rejoice in a reunion with his beloved wife, Mary, who preceded him in death and whom he cherished and loved for 52 years. Also preceded in death by parents, Melvin and Zula Hatfield Helton; brothers, Benny Helton, Billy Helton, and Cecil Ingram.
Survived by daughters, Sherry (Charlie), Sandy (Darrell), Rhonda (Darrell), and Tracy (Tim); sons, Ronnie E. Helton, Kip, and Billy (Cerise); brothers, Kenneth, and Bobby; sisters, Helen and Caroline; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 4:00 PM with Rev. David Collins officiating.
