Ronald Margison
1932-2024
The passing of Ronald “Ron” Earl Margison of Plaster Rock,
NB, husband of Loretta (Hanson) occurred Friday, January 5, 2024 at
the Upper River Valley Hospital. He was born on August 20, 1932 in
Plaster Rock, NB, and was the son of the late Earl and Beulah
(Kennard) Margison.
Ron’s early working career began in the logging industry, which
he worked at for a number of years. Being entrepreneurial at heart Ron
thought the food industry looked interesting and just might be
something to explore. So his business plan began to take shape, and
Ron’s Chicken & Chips came to life. Ron opened in the early
70’s and was located on Main Street in Plaster Rock. It was well
received and a local favorite for a number of years. He then went on
in his later years to make sub sandwiches which could be found in a
number of convenience stores, from Woodstock to Riley Brook.
He was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Church, the Marble
Arch Branch No. 29 Legion in Plaster Rock, the Seniors Club and had
been a volunteer at the Donald Fraser Memorial School Breakfast
Program.
Over the years, Ron and Loretta were very active members in the
Plaster Rock and surrounding community. They could be found most
Friday or Saturday nights dancing the night away at the legion or the
golf and curling club. They loved to dance! They also enjoyed going to
music whether it was out town, Blue Bell, Arthurette or in the kitchen
/ living room of their good friends Doug and Helen Edgar. Another
favorite pastime they had was playing numerous card games at local
venues. Ron was very social, as is Lorette and so the pair enjoyed
being with the many, many friends they have and had throughout the
years.
A favorite getaway was heading to the Richibucto Provincial Campground
where lobster was cooked for everyone to enjoy, this became an annual
event for many years.
One of their most marked and memorable trips was in 1986 when they
left for 6 weeks to travel and camp across Canada in their camper van
with good friends, the late Donnie and Glenna Henry.
Ron had a true fondness of the Tobique River, and was like a deer in
the woods, keeping up with him was tough for most! Whether he was
hunting, fishing or just going for a paddle you would see Ron’s
big smile. Ron very much had a green thumb. He loved gardening and
especially enjoyed growing many varieties of flowers. He could be
spotted most anytime in the spring, summer and fall wandering around
his many flower beds.
Ron is survived by his wife of 73 years, Loretta (Hanson); son Larry
(Kathy), daughters; Lynn and Janet (Brian). Papa/Gramps to Ken
Margison (Christina Ward), Lori Ward (Rodney), Tina Boyer (Tyler
Burtt), Josh Green (Ashley) and Jordan Green (Mindy). Great
Papa/Gramps to several great grandchildren and great great
grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Special friends Robin
Keetch and Wendy Dionne.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his infant daughter
Brenda; siblings; Goldie Hanson, Joseph Margison and Geraldine
Knowlton.

support and kindness was very much appreciated.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024,
from 1-4 pm at the Plaster Rock Royal Canadian Legion. Everybody is
welcome to attend.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Mama Bear Cancer Fund
would be appreciated by the family.
