April 3, 1947 – June12, 2024
With profound sadness we announce that Ron Kinna, of Clinton, Ontario, passed away on June 12, 2024, after a brief illness. Ron was deeply loved and will be missed by his partner of 22 years, Kim Friesen, his step-daughter, Elizabeth Olley, his sister, Jan Kinna, and other family members and friends.
Ron was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, relishing his time living on a boat and sailing the coast of BC. He came to Ontario for university, first at the University of Western Ontario in London and then at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo for a graduate degree in social work.
He settled in Huron County, where he served as a social worker for the rest of his career, both in private practice and for the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital. In this role, he made a difference in so many lives, sharing his wisdom and compassion with others. His work supporting people with mental health challenges was a source of pride and fulfilment to him.
In 2001, Ron met his life partner, Kim Friesen. They built a happy and rich life together in a home where their much-loved dogs were always underfoot.
Ron retired from his social work career in 2016, focusing his energies on projects in their home and garden. In retirement, he loved nothing more than to walk with his dog by his side in the Maitland Woods.
According to Ron’s wishes, no service will be held. We ask that you take a moment and reflect on the connection you had with Ron, and the man you knew. If you wish, donations can be made in Ron’s memory to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
