Ron “Rocky” LaRoche unexpectedly passed away on December 29, 2023, leaving behind his best friend, partner and the love of his life, Nancy. Ron was born on June 20, 1960, in Victoria, BC and was raised in a military family moving around during his childhood until the family settled in Calgary.
Ron graduated from Bishop Carrol High School and then pursued an education in Civil Engineering Technology at SAIT. Ron then accomplished another degree in IT at DeVry which became his professional career.
Ron and Nancy met in 1986 and then married in 1991. They began their life together in the community of Killarney, Calgary, Alberta.
In the past decade, Ron and Nancy built their dream home in Elkford, BC. This is where they found their mutual love for the town, the people and all the outdoor activities. Ron’s artistic and creative flair showed through with his ability to envision, with great detail, which allowed them to build together their beautiful home they shared with family and their many friends.
Ron’s extreme passion for sports was boundless, engaging in hockey, mountain biking, motorcycling, golf, squash, hiking, disc golf, downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, baseball, and his newfound love, pickle-ball. Each day was an opportunity for Ron to indulge in the activities he cherished. Above all, he enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.
Ron’s outgoing and friendly nature formed countless close friendships throughout his life. Despite the sorrow of his untimely departure, his memories will persist among surviving family, including brothers Jim (Darlene), Wayne (Joan), sisters Carla and Michele (Norm) and nieces Jessica, Jaclyn, Janelle, Alaina, nephew Christopher, and Ron’s cherished fur companion, ‘Rue.’ Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Teresa and Wilfred LaRoche.
In honor of Ron’s wishes, no formal service will be held, but an ‘Irish Wake’ is planned for the spring to joyously celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to make donations to a charity of their choosing in Ron’s memory, continuing his spirit of a life lived passionately and shared generously.
