CHANDLER, Ronald Duncan – 86,
New Harbour, Guysborough County, died Sunday, November 3, 2024, in
Valley View Villa, Riverton. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late
Raymond Duncan and Gertrude Mae (Brewer) Chandler. In his earlier
years, Ron was a painter in Halifax, and then worked at the fish plant
in Canso. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren. Ron also loved chocolate milk, Pepsi, the
Montreal Canadiens, and having extreme water, and rosebud fights, with
his kids and grandkids – and would usually end up winning by way of a
five gallon bucket of water. Ron liked to fish, hunt, play Crokinole,
do word search, crossword puzzles, and he loved animals. He
is survived by sons, Daniel (April), Enfield; Fred (May), New Harbour;
Scott (Stephanie), Port Bickerton; daughters, Maxine (David) Ehler,
Larry’s River; Janet Chandler, Lantz; grandchildren,
Virginia (Josh) Pettipas, Kevin (Kalene), Steven (Jessica), Kati
Ehler, Pamela (Ryan) Kiley, Amy (Greg Gillis), Kimberly
Chandler-Scott, Jack Chandler-Scott; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings,
Evelyn Prendergast, London, Ontario; Rae (Raymond) Pearl, Mississauga,
Ontario; Linda Purnell, Langley, British Columbia; Virginia, Toronto,
Ontario; Caroline, Halifax; Christina (Raymond) Frazier,
Larry’s River; Perry (Sheryl), Mabou; sisters-in-law, Margie
Gammon , Tor Bay; Dama Ehler (Albert), New Harbour; several nieces,
nephews and their families. Ron was predeceased by his loving wife,
Betty Roberta Mae (Sangster), sister, Hilda Colby; and brother-in-law,
Hughie Gammon. Visitation be held Wednesday, November 6, at 1 PM until
time of funeral at 2 PM in New Harbour United Baptist
Church with Reverend David Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in
Riverside Cemetery, New Harbour.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation
to the staff at Valley View Villa, who ensured Ron had the best
possible last few years, and for going above and beyond to enable the
family to remain by his side as he took his last breath. We will never
forget your kindness and compassion.
Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to
Valley View Villa or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia and Prince
Edward Island. Funeral arrangements were under the dignified and
compassionate care of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home Ltd., Country
Harbour.
