Obituary For Ronald Bruce Brownless
The family of Ronald “Papa” Brownless, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, are heartbroken to announce his passing on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the age of 87 years old. Papa went peacefully at home in his own bed, surrounded by his daughter Leanne, grandchildren Kaitlin and Cory, Rachel (Grayson’s mom), and great-grandchildren Chelsea, Charlie, and Grayson.
Papa was born in Weyburn, SK, to James and Idella Brownless, on February 14, 1936, and raised in Regina, SK. He was an only child.
Being a truck driver for much of his life took him to many places across North America. Through the years he resided in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, and the Northwest Territories before moving to Grande Prairie in 1999. Spending time in his camper at Great Slave Lake for many summers was one of his favorite places to be. Living in the mountains in Canmore, AB, was another of his favorite places. Papa spent his last year after Nana passed away, living with Leanne, half a block away from Kaitlin, Chelsea, and Charlie. Cory and Grayson spent the last few months living with Papa and Leanne as well. He wanted to be home surrounded by family, and he was.
Papa loved watching football, hockey, and the Young and the Restless every day. He loved his music and usually had it playing day and night and he would sing his heart out. Papa loved fishing, camping, and being around family and grandchildren. His signature move of giving the great-grandkids a thumbs up and saying “right on” is something Chelsea, Charlie, and Grayson all do every single day. He loved spending time with his dog Korbi, prior to Korbi’s passing several years ago, they would walk 4 miles a day. Papa would walk by the family and say, “I’m cooking Korbi a burger, anyone else want one?”
Papa was married to Linda Brownless “Nana” on August 29, 1970, Linda passed away March 13, 2022.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Shawn (Sonia) Brownless (grandkids: Kariston, Arlen, Zack, Grace, and Micah), and Leanne Brownless (grandkids: Kaitlin (Steve) Lalonde and Cory Byzuk); 3 amazing great-grandchildren: Chelsea and Charlie Lalonde, and Grayson Byzuk, who were a huge part of Papa’s life every day. He will be fondly remembered by sister in-law Clara (Tom, deceased); niece and nephew Shelley and Chris; as well as other family of Nana’s including step-daughters Carrie and Becky and their families.
Papa has been cremated with no service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation (800 College Plaza 8215 112 St., Edmonton, AB, T6G 2C8).
