Roger Schaffner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Otto Township on September 24, 2024. Roger was born on April 6, 1942, in Englehart, and lived a life marked by faith, family, friends, and a strong work ethic.
Roger’s journey through life was enriched by his profound love for building and farming, and his heart always had a special place for his many critters. His dedication to his passions served as an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
Roger was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Parish in Englehart, where he not only found spiritual nourishment but also contributed countless volunteer hours. His commitment to his community was evident through his active participation at the Encore Club in Kirkland Lake, where he dedicated his time and energy to serve others.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Diana LaCarte, and his daughter, Elaine Schaffner. Despite these profound losses, Roger’s spirit remained strong and resilient. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvette Bernatchez Schaffner, with whom he shared seven joyful years. Yvette and her children, Nicole Millions (Ron), Marc Bernatchez (Lise), Denyse Graham (Gary), and her grandchildren, Julien (Paige) Bernatchez, Janika Bernatchez, and Erika Graham, were welcomed into Roger’s heart and life, enriching his later years.
Roger’s legacy lives on through his children, Wendy Dudley (Marshall), Larry Schaffner (Michelle), and Bryan Schaffner (Natalie). His grandchildren, Bryan Dudley (Alicia), Tiffany Dudley, Beth Chapman (John), Madison Schaffner (Michael), Carter Schaffner (Amanda), Emilie, and Jack Schaffner, and his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Cannon, and Dailyn Dudley, Clara, and Cole Chapman, and Conrad Schaffner, will carry forward his memory and the values he instilled in them.
Roger is also mourned by his siblings, Tilly Wylie and John (Kelly) Schaffner, along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished his wisdom and warmth.
A visitation will be held at McDonald’s Funeral Home in Englehart on Monday, September 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Church in Englehart.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Trinity Church in Englehart to honor Roger’s lifelong commitment to his faith community.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Line Gillett and the CWL Ladies for their devoted service and support during this time. Roger Schaffner lived a life full of love, dedication, and hard work. His legacy will be remembered with fondness and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
