Rodney «Ross» MacLean
January 22, 1956 – February 26, 2024
It is with immeasurable sadness and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Rodney Ross MacLean on February 26 th , 2024, after an unexpected diagnosis, and brief battle, with cancer. Ross believed he was “the luckiest guy in the world,” asserting this into his final days.
Born on January 22 nd , 1956, to Rodrick John MacLean and Ethel Christine MacLean (nee Ross), in Sudbury, Ontario. Ross was the second oldest child in the family and had the honor to be the only boy, growing up to be an incredibly loving son, a very much loved brother and an especially adored big brother.
Family was always very important to Ross and his biggest loves were the four children he shared with Leona Roy-MacLean. As much as Ross adored being a dad, a role he took to very easily, it was with the greatest delight that he became ‘gampy’ to his celebrated grandchildren over the last decade.
Ross was a very skilled and highly respected landscaper, having been in the industry for over four decades. His level of skill, pride in his work and ethical business practices were evidenced by the long-term relationships he built with his clients, many of whom had followed him after he began his own successful company, Eden Park Landscaping. In addition to landscaping being his vocation, Ross loved to garden and could often be seen in his own garden tending to his beautiful assortment of flowers and plants. He also had ‘rescued’ a few plants over the years from family members who did not share his talent of a green thumb.
While these were the most easily identified salient aspects of who Ross was, he was also so much more and the world has lost a truly great man. Ross was the type of guy who could easily put someone at ease within moments of meeting them. He readily shared a good story and laugh with others. He was thoughtful, caring and considerate. A true gentleman. As busy as he was running his business, he always made time for the people that meant the most to him – his family. He was a prime example of the type of person this world could certainly benefit from having more of.
Ross was pre-deceased by both of his parents, as well as his grandparents and many beloved aunts and uncles. Left to grieve the tremendous void that will be left by his passing are his three sisters: Linda, Darlene and Kim (Tay), Halifax; and his four children: Christopher (Lyndsay); Colin (Morgan); Andrew (Alexandra) and Lauren (Jason); as well as his grandchildren: Abigale, Rebecca, Jorden, Jolie, Dylan, Mason, Brodie, Isla and Ivy, Lower Sackville. Many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also deeply mourn the loss of this exemplary man.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Carmen Giacomantonio; Dr. Gordon Gubitz; Dr. Sam Campbell; Dr. Nadine Hewitt; Cara Kaulbach RN, and Pam Routledge-McKinnon, RN, with Nova Scotia Health Authority (Central Zone).
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In-lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ross to HomeBridge Youth Society by visiting the following link: www.homebridgeyouth.ca
