Obituary
Nickerson, Robie Victor- 86, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robie Nickerson on August 5, 2023 at the Roseway Manor in Shelburne. Robie was born on March 25, 1937 on Cape Sable Island to his parents, Victor and Amelia (Penney) Nickerson.
He lived almost all his life in South Side until he was no longer able to live alone at which time he moved to the Cape View Seniors Boarding Home in Clark’s Harbour and then to Roseway Manor in Shelburne. Robie’s first love was the water and he spent his entire 71 year career as a lobster fisherman beginning at the age of 11 and ending at 81 years old. He married Gloria Nickerson in 1961; they were married for 58 years and had 2 children. During their married years, he and Gloria loved to travel together, often with his sister and brother in laws, Joyce & Terry. Robie also enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing dominos and watching game shows on TV. He liked dogs and was a dog owner for much of his life.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dedicated wife, Gloria, his sister, Helen Penney, brother in law, Vernon Penney and grandson in law, Bill Baker.
He is survived by his 2 children, Herbie (Debbie) Nickerson of Newellton and Deane (Ivan) Symonds of North East Point. Also his grandchildren, Coady (Cynthia) Nickerson, Jillian Crowell, Cara (Jordan) Duncanson, Susann (Armand) d’Entremont, Kattie Symonds, Janaya Nickerson, Josh Nickerson and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the VON staff, the staff of Cape View Seniors Boarding Home and the staff of Roseway Manor for their care over the last few years of his life.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 10 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 2p.m. Interment to follow in the White Lily Cemetery, South Side.
