Robert William Fiederlein – April 30, 1935- June 9, 2023
Predeceased by parents Albert , May 17, 2003, Idella Spaetzel Fiederlein June 19,1989.
Survived by wife Phyllis Jackson Fiederlein, married on January 17, 1958, sisters Audrey Fiederlein, (Margaret) Elaine Fiederlein Jackson, son Brent, daughter Brenda Fiederlein (Dean) Pomerleau,2 grandchildren Ethen, Austen.
Robert received his academic education in New Dundee Public School and KW Collegiate. It was in Kitchener that he honed his skills in electricity and woodworking. Using those skills he built two homes, one on Queen St and the other, a passive solar home, on Meadowbrook Court in New Dundee. He also opened a subdivision south of his home.
Robert worked for his father in the New Dundee Red and White grocery store, mostly in the meat cutting section, until he took over the management and ownership of the Fiederlein Food Market. He learned the meat cutting trade during the year he spent in Virgil working with Max Bogusat, coming home because of rheumatic fever. He also survived a cancer experience in 1965. He retired in 1991. In 2023 he was discovered to have a tumour on his pancreas. Robert passed away at home on Sunday morning, July 9, 2023.
Music has always played an important part in Robert’s life. He played his trumpet in the Schmalz and Lena Pickleheimer Family of New Dundee German Band, initially taking on the role of the daughter in the family. He played for the New Dundee Musical Society Band until its demise. He has also been a member of the Waterloo Concert , the Grand River New Horizons and the 1914 New Horizons Bands. He has also helped out in other groups. For many years he has played his trumpet for the New Dundee Remembrance Day Services.
Robert was a member of the New Dundee Optimists and attended the New Dundee Baptist Church.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service at this time.
