Robert Parsons Obituary
Passed away unexpectedly at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Born in Saint-Eustache, Quebec, on June 13, 1944, Robert Walter Parsons of Owen Sound was in his 80th year.
Beloved husband for 55 years of Mary Carol Parsons (nee Golem) of Owen Sound. Loving and devoted Dad of Rob Parsons (Joeline) of Ingersoll and Lisa Parsons (Pedro) of Toronto. Cherished and proud Papa of Willie, Georgia, Charlie (Charlotte) and Victoria. Dear brother of Joan Appel of Tucson, Arizona, and brother-in-law of Patricia Golem of Hanover. Dear uncle of Heather, Jennifer and Bill. Bob will be missed by his many friends.
Predeceased by his parents Walter and Thelma Parsons, by his brothers-in-law Jim Golem and Larry Appel, and by his nephew Rick Golem.
Bob courageously battled 3 types of cancer over 19 years. He was a beloved teacher and coach at I. E. Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay from 1973 to 2000. He was an avid golfer and upon retirement continued his love for the sport as a marshal for 15 years at Cobble Beach Golf Resort. He was considered a good friend, a great listener and “man could he hit a golf ball”. Bob played the guitar starting at age 15 and continued playing up to his last day. He lived life to the fullest, but above all else, he loved his family the most. He always had a positive outlook and often said “Don’t be sad that it is over, be glad that it happened”.
Our family is grateful to Dr. Sandhu and the wonderful oncology staff at Brightshores Health System. Heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, police officer Gabrielle and emergency room staff who helped on the morning of May 14th.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
