August 28, 1959 – May 14, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Mash” Machendagoos, age 64 years of Whitesand First Nation, peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Mash was born in Armstrong, Ontario on August 28, 1959 to Rosalie (nee Anakons) and Henry Machendagoos. He worked as a Tree Planter with Joel Crookham and drove a School Bus for Whitesand First Nation. Mash enjoyed baseball and was Whitesand’s oldest player. He also loved playing cards and poker. Above all else, Mash’s greatest passion was spending time with family and friends. He touched every one and never failed to make those around him laugh. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and was truly beloved by all those who knew him.
Mash will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Patricia (nee Gray); children Jason (Jessie) and Tricia Cook; grandchildren Kyle, Nyeisha, Seth, Malezia, Jordan, Jerilyn, Alana, Jacob and Stella, all of whom he loved dearly. Robert is also survived by his siblings, Liza, Lillian (Bruce), Rowena, Cecilia (Eldon), Maurie, Willie and Xavier; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Evelyn (Clarence), Lorraine (Alvin), Lois (Turf), Martha, Florence, Debby and Percy Jr. (Janice) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rosalie and Henry Machendagoos; brothers Basil (Alfreda), Benny, Eli and sisters Mary and Joyce; mother-in-law Stella Gray and father-in-law Percy Gray Sr.; brothers-in-law Ken Ferrig and Howard Gray and niece Crystal Machendagoos.
The family would like to thank the staff of TBRHSC, St. Joseph’s and Dilico for their care of Mash.
Funeral Services for the late Mr. Robert “Mash” Machendagoos will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 with family and friends gathering in Our Lady of the Snows Roman Catholic Church in Armstrong for the Funeral Mass at 11:00am, celebrated by Father Gerald McDougall. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. A Wake will be held in the Armstrong Curling Club beginning Saturday evening.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay.
