Bob (Robert Joseph) Frenette
1945 – 2024
Canadian Armed Forces, Military Police
Transport Canada, Security Inspector
On April 2, 2024, I lost my fight to vascular dementia which turned me into someone I don’t recognize, let alone all those who love me. Son of Albert and Hélèna Frenette (née Lewin), I’ve missed you and look forward to seeing you soon! To my favourite sister, Helen, whom I love and adore, I always treasured our talks and your visits, especially your last one. Merci, avec tout mon coeur. Nancy and Marc, you make your mother so very proud. Keep it up! To André (Lorraine), thank you for getting up in the wee hours to take me golfing, something only a caring brother would do. To my daughter, Christine (Justin), stay true to yourself and happiness will follow. And to my son, Dave, I am so proud of you; thanks for being my best bud. Thank you both for your calls and for the many hours on the road you needed to drive to visit me. To Nicolas and Amélie, take care of your father; he will need you and rely on you, like I relied on him. To Belle-mère and Marcel, you gifted me with kindness and accepted me into your family for over three decades. Your many visits and treats always put a smile on my face. Un gros merci. To my late brother-in-law, David (January 8, 2024), we’ll work on that contract together over a beer! To Mimi, my angel, through thick and thin, thank you for everything that you did for me. It’s time to live your life with wondrous travels. Lastly, to some of my favourite people, Mike, Pierre, and Richard: from one Veteran to another, keep up the good fight. You all brought me joy through fishing, golf, Tuesday movies, and the odd poutine and hot-dog steamé. Mike, your bag of treats was very appreciated. À la prochaine!
From Mimi: a sincere thank you to the staff at the Carling and Perley Carefor Day Programs, and the Perley Guesthouse who provide respite for caregivers. To those who helped with some much needed guidance and assistance, Doctors Knoefel and Whitney (Bruyère Memory Clinic), Erica D’Anna (Care and Community Health), and the amazing and caring medical team and staff of Rideau 2 South at Perley Health, thank you for saving a broken caregiver. Your exceptional care made a very big difference and is so very appreciated. To the paramedics, and doctors and nurses at the General (Emergency and the 5th floor, 5405) who helped us through Bob’s final trek, thank you. To my family and friends who helped me navigate this challenging journey, with all my heart, thank you.
Family and friends are invited to pay respects at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, Central Chapel, 315 McLeod, Ottawa. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of Bob’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob’s honour to the Perley Health Foundation are appreciated, perleyhealthfoundation.ca. Private internment to follow at a later date.
