It’s with great sadness that we announce the
passing of our father Robert James Pictou, 85 of Potlotek , NS, at
home surrounded by his children on May 17,
2024.
Born on March
06, 1939 in Clyde River, NS, he was the son of the late Francis Pictou
of Clyde River, and Amy Rhyno of Shubenacadie.
Robert had many loves including watching WWE on
Sunday nights, traveling to Maine to visit family & friends,
and attending as many powwows as possible where he would always flag
carry. He loved sitting in his chair listening to his favourite
country music and listening to morning prayers. He always had a laugh
and hug to share to anyone who was around along with telling his many
life stories.
Robert attended the
Shubenacadie Residential School for 6 years where he lost his culture
from the ages of 6-12 years old. He also attended Indian Day
School.
Robert is survived by his
children; Marie Pictou (Dave), Robert Phillip Pictou (Anna), and
Christopher Pictou, all of Paqtnkek; Robert John Pictou,
British Columbia; Francis Pictou, Dartmouth,
Massachusetts; Audrey Julian (Warner), Eskasoni; Wosowech Pictou
(Taylor), and Kulokowech Pictou (Andle) of Potlotek; step-children,
David Gould (Lisa), New York; Patricia Paul (Richard), Potlotek; Mary
Rose Watts, Truro; and Phyllis Prosper, Whycocomagh. He had 70
grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren;
and 4 great-great-great-grandchildren,
Besides his
parents, he is predeceased by; brother, Francis Pictou, Maine,
sisters; Lillian, Minnesota; Betty, California; Mary Ellen Robinson,
Shubenacadie; children, Virginia Sue Pictou and Darrell Anthony
Pictou, Maine; Carl Gould, Potlotek; Agnes Gould, Membertou; David
Bryan Francis, Paqtnkek; and Yvonne Lorraine Sack, Shubenacadie.
Visitations will begin Thursday May 23, 2024, at 12pm
in the residence at #4 Dillon St., Paqtnkek.
Friday visitation will be held at 2pm in Kateri Tekakwitha
Chapel HWY# 4, Polotek. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday May 25th in
St. Peter’s Church, St. Peters, at 1pm, with Father Elliot
O’Neill presiding. Burial will take place at a later
date.
A Salite will be held at the
Potlotek Community Centre in Potlotek following the
Mass.
