Obituary of Robert «Bobby» Picard
Bobby passed away in hospital, Hull, Quebec on November 29, 2023 at the age of 78 years. How to summarize the life of a man who meant so many things to so many people? Robert Picard, better known as Bobby, Bob or Snoopy, as his fellow truckers called him, was the son of the late Jean McDonald and Ollie Picard. Predeceased by his sisters Verna, Doreen and Laurena. He spent his life doing what he loved behind the wheel of a transport hauling logs. Trucking may have been what ran through his veins but his heart was home in Chichester, Quebec with his beloved Verna and their three daughters Christine, Tracy and Nancy. When he wasn’t home or on top of his loader loading logs he could be found at his camp sitting at a table surrounded by friends and other camp owners that were passing through, telling stories and having a good laugh. If you needed to know what it meant to have a trucker’s mouth you just had to spend 20 minutes listening to him tell one of his many stories. That mouth could ruffle feathers but his charm earned him quite a few good friends over the years. He was well known for his involvement in the community, for his work as fire chief back in the day. Bobby loved being a dad but loved being a grandfather and great grandfather even more. A proud papa to Robbie, Ashley, Cassie, Kurtis, Brittany, Chase and Cody and great “Papa” to Konner, Karter, Karson, Hayden, Hannah, Macey and Grayson. He was so many things to all these people, for some reason he was even a father figure, an idol whose work ethic we all aspired to have. He was our hero, a mentor to young truckers in the industry. Someone a young truck enthusiast could look up to. Two of his grandsons, Robbie and Kurtis, having followed in his footsteps where his trucking legacy lives on through them. He was tremendously proud of the paths all his grandchildren had taken. One thing we know for sure is that his tough guy exterior was no match for his enormous heart, there’s nothing he wouldn’t have done for those he loved. He was outspoken, witty and could have you giggle your bad day away. He may not have been everyone’s cup of tea but he was ours. And he will be missed tremendously by us all. Not goodbye, just see you later. Respecting Bobby’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Alphonsus Church, Chapeau, Quebec on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11 a.m.
