We are saddened to announce the passing
of Robert «Bobby» Gordon Black,
92, of Brookdale, NS at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on
August 19, 2023.
A true farmer, Dad spent his entire life
on the family farm in Brookdale, farming first with his father, then
with his own children. Working with the horses, cattle and hogs was a
favorite part of his lifestyle.
To supplement the family income of a
growing family, Dad took a job that would complement his farming
schedule for the next 34 years. Driving a rural school bus, accident
free, he was well liked and respected, with adults still referring to
going on Bobby Black’s bus, their favorite bus
driver.
Dad was a quiet, gentle man who loved
the outdoors and worked hard physically to provide for his large
family, never shirking his responsibilities. Their marriage was a
loving partnership, working together he and Mom overcome tough
economic times, never losing the love in their relationship. He was
proud of his large family and enjoyed the celebrations held at the
farm during the holidays and special events, especially the quantity
and selection of good food.
He enjoyed showing cattle and horses at
the Oxford Exhibition and Winter Fair in the early years, and watching
his sons’ hockey games in later years.
Throughout Dad’s life, dancing
up a storm to fast polka music was a highlight for him and anyone
watching. He was a delight!
Bobby will be dearly missed by his wife
of 69 years, Helen (nee Gilroy), Brookdale, NS; six children, David
(Linda), Brookdale, Grant (Anne), Fall River, NS, Paul (Trudy),

Carl (Joan) Gilroy; a sister-in-law, Mary Gilroy; a foster brother,
