Robert ‘Bob’ Carl Heibein:
Beloved husband, devoted father, cherished Grampy and passionate community member, passed away on July 3, 2023. Born on June 30, 1953, in Kitchener, Ontario, he was the cherished son of Vera and Donnie Heibein and the oldest of three siblings, Wendy and John.
At the age of 13, Bob joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Warspite in 1966, embarking on a remarkable journey of service and leadership. He became an officer with the corps at 19 and served until 1986, rising to the esteemed position of Commanding Officer. After stepping down from the role, he continued his dedication to the corps by joining the K-W Navy League when his children, Amber and Donnie, became cadets. He remained a member of the Navy League, sharing his passion and experience, until his passing.
Throughout his life, Bob fostered a love of baseball, which led him to become an umpire for the Waterloo Minor Baseball Association. For an impressive span of 30 years, he officiated games, leaving a lasting impact on the local baseball community. His commitment and passion for the sport inspired his children, Ian, Amber, and Donnie, who followed in his footsteps and became umpires themselves. However, Bob’s proudest moment came when he had the privilege of sharing the field with two of his children, Amber and Donnie, during a single game-an unprecedented occurrence in Waterloo. This moment was a testament to the deep bonds he forged with his family through their shared love of the game.
Bob’s enthusiasm for science fiction, fantasy, and technology was infectious. He nurtured this passion within his family, fostering a shared love for imaginative worlds and storytelling. Alongside his wife, Theresa, and their children, Ian, Amber, and Donnie, he explored the wonders of series such as Dungeons and Dragons, Star Trek, Star Wars, and numerous other adventures throughout the years. Boɓ’s ability to ignite the imagination and cultivate a sense of wonder left an indelible mark on his loved ones.
In 1981, Bob met his beloved wife, Theresa, while standing out at a bar as a cowboy in the disco era. Their unique connection and shared love of horses brought them closer together. Theresa and their daughter, Amber, continued to share this passion with Bob, creating lasting memories and deepening their bond. Bob and Theresa were to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on August 27, 2023, marking four decades of love, companionship, and unwavering support.
Bob was not only a dedicated family man but also adored as «Grampy» by his three grandchildren, Arielle, Aiden, and Sybil. He shared his wisdom, love, and joy with them, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.
Robert Carl Heibein, aged 70, will be remembered as a devoted father, a dedicated naval officer, an esteemed umpire, and a beacon of joy. His love, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation will be held on July 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Henry Walser Funeral Home, located at 507 Frederick St, Kitchener, ON. Another small visitation will take place on July 13, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Kitchener-Waterloo Branch of the Navy League of Canada as a tribute to Robert’s memory (cards available at the funeral home).
May Robert Carl Heibein’s soul find eternal peace,
and may his legacy inspire us to live with love, passion, and dedication as he did.
