FLEMING, Robert (Bob) passed away unexpectedly at the Welland General Hospital on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on April 4, 1940, Bob had recently relocated to Welland, Ontario, to be closer to family following the passing of his wife, Maryellen Fleming.
At a young age, Bob began his teaching career in 1958 at Nester Falls Public School. For over thirty years, he was Principal, Vice Principal, and teacher at various schools in Thunder Bay retiring in 1996. Bob also taught for two years in Germany, enjoying travel as a part of the experience. He loved teaching. In 1994, Bob married his soulmate, Maryellen (nee Lamme). Following retirement, the two of them enjoyed travelling extensively with cruises being one of their favourite travel adventures.
In his retirement, Bob enjoyed trivia, golf and curling, while also singing in various choirs. Bob loved animals, caring for many dogs and cats in his lifetime. While living in Welland, Bob regularly spent time with family enjoying get together conversations on cars, sports and world events. He loved his suite in the Grand Canal Retirement Residence, walking the canal, watching sunsets from his terrace, listening to live music and socializing with his newly found retirement community.
Bob was predeceased by wife, Maryellen, and his parents Alma (nee Anderson) and Robert Fleming, and his sister Shirley McIver. Left to mourn his passing are Bob’s sons Scott (Sherry – nee Visser) and Murray (Irena – nee Fendic) and their children Hanna, Liam, and Tessa, to whom he was Grandad. He is survived by his first wife, Bernice McCutcheon and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
As he wished, cremation has taken place, and no formal celebration will be held. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Thunder Bay Humane Society or your local humane society/SPCA. Online condolences available at www.cudneyfuneralhome.com.
