Obituary
HARKIES, Robert Clifford (May 4, 1957 – August 5, 2023) – Rob passed away on August 5, 2023. He had been unwell, and complications from diabetes finally took its toll. He can rest now and gather with those gone before him. His Mom will have the tea on. (He said, she always had the tea on.) Rob grew up in Orangeville with his sister Debbie Green (Harkies) and was raised by his loving parents Ralph Harkies and Alice Jean Harkies (Lewis). He had a full life growing up in Orangeville. He was sports minded and helped coach hockey. He married and had his son Dylan. Eventually he landed in the Niagara area, where he enjoyed time with his family, colleagues, friends and community there. Rob was adopted. In 2010, he and his then partner Tracey, received his adoption papers and searched out his biological family. He was born Robert Douglas McCoy, in Toronto, at the Salvation Army Grace Hospital. They found his birth mother and two siblings and planned a meeting in July 2011. Unfortunately, one of the siblings, his brother, passed away just prior to this meeting. He eventually met and got to know his birth mother, sister, sister-in-law, as well as a niece and nephew of his half brother. Rob, Tracey and her son Kiefer, stayed in contact with his birth family over the years. Rob was predeceased by both of his parents, Ralph and Jean Harkies, his sister Debbie Green, his biological mother Margory Hutchins and his half brother Danny Hutchins. Rob will be missed by his son Dylan, partner Nicole Farago and her sons Brandon and Jerrey Farago. He will be remembered fondly by his half sister Debbie Hutchins; his extended family, church community and many friends. A service for Rob was held on August 10th, 2023 in Niagara Falls.
