The Funeral Service will be Friday, September 15, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Inglis
Rita Catherine Tymchuk passed away August 27, 2023 at her home in her 81st year. Rita was born on the family farm September 16, 1941 to parents Henry and Susan Kriewaldt. She attended Wolverine District School until the age of 16 when she obtained employment at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Russell. After a period of time Rita and her siblings Hilda and Lawrence ventured to the city of Brandon to work. Rita returned home and started a very serious romance with Cecil Dilts. Rita and Cecil were married in May of 1958. Rita and Cecil settled into the CPR station house in Harrowby—Cecil was the section foreman, and their married life began.
In March of 1961 Rita and Cecil were blessed with the birth of their first child. A son, Kevin. Rita and Cecil were blessed a second time in September of 1962 with the birth of daughter Barbara completing their family.
In January of 1967 tragedy struck and Cecil was seriously injured in an accident. The family moved into Russell as Cecil required extensive medical care. The next few years were hard years. Rita was caring for her husband as well as two small children and it took its toll. Cecil’s doctor made the difficult decision that Cecil needed to be transferred to a facility in Brandon equipped to deal with his injuries. Rita and Cecil’s marriage would not survive and ended in divorce and Cecil would pass away in 1978.
Rita was the sole provider for her children now and decided that Dauphin may provide a fresh start for her family. So the family moved to Dauphin. Shortly after Rita moved brother Arnold and his family followed.
Initially Rita started working at the Community Inn in the restaurant waitressing but then transferred over to the bar and soon worked her way up to bar manager. Rita met Michael Tymchuk at the Community Inn as Michael worked casually at the hotel in his spare time. A romance soon developed and in 1977 Rita and Michael moved to La Ronge SK to manage a hotel there. In 1978 Michael was offered employment in Alberta at Syncrude and they moved to Fort McMurray. They were married in December of 1980.
Rita continued to work in the hotel industry again attaining the position of bar manager at the Oil Sands Hotel for several
years.
Rita and Michael moved to Redwater AB and then to Waskatenau AB to be closer to medical facilities in Edmonton. At this time Rita was fighting her breast cancer battle and kicked cancers a**. She was so proud to say she was a survivor. Michael continued to commute to Fort McMurray for work.
Rita and Michael decided it was time to retire and purchased the farm east of Inglis that Rita resided on until her death. Michael was the one that sort of retired. He retired from the oil industry to become a farmer. Rita continued to work outside of the home and was employed by the Russell Inn for many years. One of her biggest regrets was having to give up working. Even when her body was saying “Rita it’s time to slow down” she put up a good argument. She maybe didn’t miss the work but she certainly missed her coworkers.
She did slow down and definitely took the time to smell the roses. Rita loved her farm, the animals, the birds, just the very air and she enjoyed these things until her very last breath.
Rita was predeceased by her parents Henry and Susan Kriewaldt, husband Cecil in 1978 and second husband Michael in 1997, brother Lorne in 2017
She leaves to mourn her passing, son Kevin and wife Virginia Dilts, Virginia’ s son Jeremy Kowalchuk.
Her daughter Barbara and husband Perry Wojcichowsky , granddaughters Bria Wojcichowsky and Jade Wojcichowsky. Sister Hilda Kriewaldt, brother Arnold and wife Donna Kriewaldt , brother Clifford and wife Debbie Kriewaldt, Sister-in-law Grace Kriewaldt, numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
Mom lived her life on her terms and even in death it was on her terms. She was one of the strongest and determined woman that I have ever known and she will be loved always.
Our memories will give us comfort now in this time of grief Rest easy mom
