It is with profound sadness that the family announces Richard’s passing on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Beloved husband of Laurie (Haves). Cherished father and father-in-law of Adam and Michelle Samuelson and Danielle and Bryan Lazarus. Adoring Popsy of Emma and Leah Samuelson, Dylan and Charlie Lazarus. Dear twin brother and brother-in-law of the late Michael and the late Marcia Samuelson; and brother-in-law of Mary and Edward Cooper, and Marc and Rita Haves of New York. Devoted son of the late Cooney and the late Betty Samuelson. Richard will be sadly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Richard was co-owner of historic Montreal business Samuelsohn Ltd. He will be remembered for his love of baseball, opera, theater, and travel. He was a voracious reader and an animated story and joke teller. He will be fondly remembered by newspaper readers across North America for his frequent and opinionated letters to the editor.

Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at his home on Sunday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Cedars Cancer Foundation, (514) 656-6662 or to the Alzheimer Society of Montreal, 514-613-1585.
