Richard S Mullen, ARCT,BA
Passed away peacefully, on September 10, 2023, in the ACE Unit at Brampton Civic Hospital, at age 81. Predeceased by his parents, Jean (nee Heath) and Victor Mullen; and sister, Marilyn Fraser. Remembered fondly by his brother, David Mullen of Timmins; by the Ciaschini family; and by countless former students and colleagues.
Richard was born in Timmins, Ontario, where he learned to play the piano, famously winning the Outstanding Performance award at the Porcupine Festival of Music in three consecutive years. He continued his music studies at Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto becoming an accomplished organist. He arranged liturgical music and played at services for various churches as well as created arrangements for other church Music Directors.
After studying the classics and graduating from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, «The Mull» enjoyed a successful career as an educator, teaching classes in French, English, Latin and World Religion to many students in secondary schools across the GTA. He inspired his students by making the «larning» fun despite a few «stiff tests» («…delivered on cardboard»). His sartorial style tended toward the flamboyant, but his sense of humour was firmly in the Three Stooges camp. He eventually retired from Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School in 1998.
He will be missed. Requiesce In Pace, Richard.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation to be held at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Toronto (north of Rexdale Boulevard), on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrews Church, 2547 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. Private interment at a later date.
